After launching its first tablet-style device nearly seven years ago, Nokia is back in the tablet segment today with the market launch of the Nokia T20 tablet. It is a premium looking device, equipped with various advanced features to compete with the latest and best on the market today. The device is also the company’s first Android-based tablet. So, before moving on to price and availability, let’s take a quick look at its design and key specs.
Launch of the Nokia T20 tablet
Design and visualization
Starting with the design, the Nokia T20 tablet has a familiar design, reminiscent of the latest Nokia smartphones. It has soft, rounded corners and edges and a clean back panel with only the single camera module and a Nokia branding in the center. The device weighs 465g and is 7.8mm thick.
On the front, the Nokia T20 boasts a 10.4-inch IPS LCD panel with a maximum resolution of 2000 x 1200p (2K). It is also covered with tempered glass, such as from Nokia. However, the company did not mention any brands for it. Additionally, the display will be equipped with a brightness boost feature that can allow it to reach its maximum brightness of 400 nits.
Cameras and interiors
Now, it’s worth mentioning that the display has a bit of a bezel around it. However, come to think of it, you’ll need some space to hold the device without affecting the touch-sensitive display. Additionally, the landscape-oriented top bezel houses the front 5MP selfie and webcam. Speaking of cameras, the Nokia T20 has a single 8MP camera and an LED flash housed inside the rear camera module.
Under the hood, the device packs the Unisoc T610 processor, which is an octa-core processor consisting of two Cortex-A75 cores and six Cortex-A55 cores. The chipset is paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. There is also a dedicated SD card slot to expand the internal storage up to 512GB.
As for the battery, the Nokia T20 is equipped with a huge 8,200mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging. However, it is worth mentioning that users will not be able to charge the device to its maximum capacity with the 10W charging adapter included in the package. Like Nokia, the device can provide up to 10 hours of movie playback and 15 hours of web browsing on a single charge.
Apart from these, there is a USB-C port for charging and data transfer and also a 3.5mm audio jack. It also comes with a stereo speaker setup along with Nokia’s OZO Audio technology. Although the device does not have a fingerprint scanner, it does offer face unlock for authentication.
The device will run Android 11 out-of-the-box and will be available in a single color option called Deep Ocean. Nokia claims that the T20 tablet will receive 2 years of major Android updates and 3 years of monthly security updates. Hence, it will be upgradeable to Android 12 which has recently started rolling out for global users. In addition, the device will come with Google Kids Space and Google Entertainment Space ready to use.
Price and availability
Now, coming in at the price of the device, the Nokia T20 will start at £ 179.99 (~ Rs 18,311) for the Wi-Fi-only variant and go up to £ 199.99 (~ Rs 20,346) for the Wi-Fi + cellular model. It is currently available for pre-order and will begin shipping on October 11th. Additionally, pre-order customers will also get a 50% discount on the Nokia T20 Rugged Case and Rugged Folding Cases.
Unfortunately, there are no words as to whether Nokia will bring the device to India or not. However, as the company is expanding at a rapid pace in India, we can expect the company to set foot in the tablet segment of the country.
