While Apple confirmed to launch its next-generation iPhone 13 series and Apple Watch Series 7 (likely to be available in limited quantities at launch) on September 14, a recent FCC filing suggests the Cupertino giant may also release a new one. MagSafe charger at the event. The company has reportedly recently added the new MagSafe charger to the FCC database and aims to release the product alongside its upcoming iPhone 13 models.
The report comes from 9to5Mac, stating that the new MagSafe charger has a model number of A2548. This is certainly different from the A2140 model number of current MagSafe chargers launched with the iPhone 12 series last year.
The report states that Apple unveiled the new MagSafe charger test unit to the FCC on August 13, which is less than a month ago. Since then, the charger has been tested with various iPhone models, including iPhone 12 and four “New Phone” units, which are allegedly iPhone 13 series devices.
According to the report, the FCC tested the MagSafe unit with “Legacy Phone” models with model numbers A2341, A2176, A2172 and A2342. These are essentially the model numbers of the iPhone 12 units.
Now, it’s worth mentioning that the new MagSafe charger doesn’t look very different from existing models. The report also states that Apple sometimes changes the model numbers of its products even when there is a small change in them.
So, we can safely assume that the new MagSafe charger won’t come with any major changes. However, it may come with stronger magnets or better charging efficiency for future iPhone models. We’ll know more when Apple officially launches the product at its September 14 event. So, be sure to stay tuned for more information.
